Geneva - United States and Russia announced a ceasefire in Syria which will come into force on Monday, coinciding with the celebration of Eid al-Adha.
"Today we're announcing a cease-fire that hopefully will last a long time, but this again depends on the choice of the Syrian people," said US Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday in Geneva, Switzerland.
Kerry declared a ceasefire along with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Russia is supporting the regime of Bashar Al Assad while the United States supports the rebel forces.
Kerry said the truce applies across Syria. He also called on the opposition and the regime to respect the ceasefire. Syrian government said it will honor this agreement.
The truce include a ban on air strikes against the government Surah opposition groups. Kerry mentions this article as the main thing in the truce because the Syrian air strikes often cause civilian casualties and cause the flow of migrants.
Until Saturday, the regime of Al Assad still air attack. At least 24 people were killed in the attack in Idlib virgin.
Kerry and Lavrov added, after seven days later a truce, the US and Russia will cooperate to crush Nusra Front, an al Qaeda-affiliated organization that fishing in murky water the Syrian civil war.
Nusra Front and the Islamic State Syria exploit chaos to recruit militia. Nusra Front itself, according to Kerry, indicated plans to attack US soil.
