Last year, Katie Prager, who has cystic fibrosis, striving endlessly to get a lung transplant as Medicare, Medicaid and hospitals quibbled over money.
After CNN brings difficulty to light, he got a transplant.
Her husband, Dalton Prager, who also has cystic fibrosis, received a transplant, too.
A couple - she 26 and he 25 - dreamed that after the transplant, they will travel together to each state and wrote a book about their love story.
But last week, she was admitted to hospital at home. transplant did not work, and the doctors said there was nothing else they could do.
"My body was just so tired," said Katie, who has spent the last year and a half in and out of hospital.
her own medical battle. Dalton's lymphoma contracted as a result of the transplant, and since it has been treated. But he is now at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, near where his family lived, against pneumonia and viruses.
Katie said the plan now is for Dalton will be flown immediately to the University of Kentucky Medical Center so he could be closer to him.
Katie hopes he will run next week and can make the one hour drive to his home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.
"If we could only spend days and nights together, we will be happy with it," said Katie.
Very romantic, very sad if I had to menlanjutkan to write something about them.
Katie and Dalton started his love story with Facebook message when they were both 18 years old.
"If you ever need a friend to talk to, you can reach me," Katie wrote to Dalton after reading that he is very ill.
"I'm sorry, but I know you?" He replied.
No you do not, Katie wrote back and told Dalton that he, too, has cystic fibrosis and fight.
When they begin to fall in love over Facebook, the next step is to meet in person - but for Katie, which is dangerous.
Dalton has been clear to him from the start that he had an infection, Burkholderia cepacia, terrible infection dangerous and contagious for people with cystic fibrosis.
the doctors warned her to never meet with other CF patients, for fear of contracting the bacteria.
But she listened to her heart, even if it would hurt his lungs. He asked Dalton to come visit him in Kentucky.
"I told Dalton I'd rather be happy - like really, really happy - for five years of my life and die sooner than mediocre happy and live for 20 years," said Katie. "It was definitely something I have to think about, but when you have that feeling, you just know."
Two years later, in 2011, Dalton and Katie married. Both were 20 years old.
The worst fears of the doctors' realized: He did contract Burkholderia cepacia, and both Katie and Dalton waiting for transplants at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Katie says she does not regret making the decision to meet privately Dalton.
"I do not look back because I can not really change the past. I had this time with Dalton and so I might as well keep looking forward," he said.
Message to those who he will leave
Katie said she did not think why life gave him so many health challenges.
"I do not really see it as unjust," he said. "Everybody has their own battle and God chose this battle for me."
"If it is my time for Him to take me home, it was his decision," he added. "If that's what God has planned, then I am ready."
He was not worried that his family would be stuck with the cost of the funeral after he died, so he made a YouCaring page for donations.
As Katie prepares to leave this world, he had a message for those who will remain.
"Just love each other," he said. "If someone makes you angry, just forgive them."
There are things he did he wishes he could take it back, he said. He's been calling people to ask for forgiveness, and said he had more calls to make.
another message: Do what makes you happy.
"I always wanted to go to Florida, and I never left," he said. "I wish I just got in my car and go - it's not far."
"But that's OK," he added. "I'll see Florida from heaven."
I think I cried.
